Lats Deck

Help pairing your iPad with your Mac.

Lats Deck is an iPad companion for the Lattices menu bar app. It controls a Mac only after that Mac approves the pairing.

What you need

• An iPad with Lats Deck.
• A Mac with the Lattices menu bar app installed and running. Download it from lattices.dev.
• Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
• The Companion bridge turned on in Lattices. It is off until you turn it on.

Pair a Mac

1. Install and launch Lattices on the Mac.
2. Keep the Mac and the iPad on the same Wi-Fi network.
3. On the Mac, open Lattices → Settings → Companion and turn on the local bridge.
4. On the iPad, open Lats Deck and tap Add a host.
5. Choose the Mac in the list. If it is missing, tap Refresh, or tap Look for hosts. You can also tap Enter an address manually and type the Mac’s Bonjour name, such as mini.local, and the port. The bridge listens on port 5287.
6. Read the code on the iPad. On the Mac, an alert titled “Allow a device to control this Mac?” shows a code. The two codes must match. If they do not, tap Deny.
7. On the Mac, tap Allow Pairing.

The iPad then waits with the text “Approve the prompt on [Mac name].” After the Mac allows pairing, that Mac joins the home screen.

The Mac does not appear

• Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
• On the Mac, open Lattices → Settings → Companion and confirm the local bridge is on.
• On the iPad, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and allow Lattices Deck. That is the name iPad Settings uses for this app.
• In Add a host, tap Refresh. If the network blocks Bonjour, tap Look for hosts, or enter the Mac’s address and port 5287.
• Wake the Mac. A sleeping Mac does not answer.

The pairing request does not appear on the Mac

• Look for an alert titled “Allow a device to control this Mac?” The buttons are Allow Pairing and Deny.
• Confirm the Companion bridge is on, and that you tapped Ask to pair on the iPad after the codes were shown.
• If the iPad has been waiting a while, it says the Mac should be awake. Wake the Mac and try Ask to pair again.
• Cancelling on the iPad stops the iPad from waiting. It does not remove an alert that is already on the Mac. Deny that alert if you do not want to pair, or allow it and add the Mac again. The next attempt can complete a pairing the Mac already approved.

Forget a Mac or end a session

Open Settings in Lats Deck (the gear). Under Macs, tap Forget on that Mac’s row. Forget removes the trusted-Mac record from this iPad.

Disconnect, in the same Settings screen, ends the live session. It does not remove the saved trust record. Use Forget when you want the iPad to stop trusting that Mac.

The Mac keeps its own copy until you remove it there. Open Lattices → Settings → Companion and tap Revoke next to the device.

Before you have a Mac

With no Mac paired, Lats Deck stays on the home screen. That screen shows a sample labeled “Preview · once connected,” plus Add a host. The sample does not control a computer and does not send commands. Voice, the trackpad, and the live cockpit require a paired Mac.
